Latest spam/trojan block

Postby Messa » Fri Feb 20, 2004 1:55 am

Anyone know of a good PM manager that stops the onjoin spam that is around at the moment?

When i start Invision i join over 8 servers and 20 channels, so get bombarded with notices offering me a bigger di*k etc and its too much.

i dont want a pm blocker as sometimes i want to see the pms at a later date (so need log functions), i also want to be able to accept or decline a PM (possibly with auto close timer).

I have used the SecureQuery script but its not reliable enough and leaves boxes all over the screen even when auto close is on (and mIrc is minimised) and as most of these advertise porn, the wife aint to happy when she comes to use pc.

Anyone recommend one please?

Quality, pure quality.

:D

I really really wish I could code for IRC, how did you learn, was it online or through books/college etc?

I have been to a few sites for help starting out, but most start quite good, but then don't progress past the most basic of tasks.

Thanks again, for the time and effort.

Messa

PS. Pam says sorry, it was just that she saw my post first!

Learning

Postby Riamus » Sun Mar 07, 2004 4:07 pm

I personally learned through practice...

I viewed any current script and figured out how things worked by using mIRC's help file and just common sense. This, of course, will not work for everyone. For one, I have previous programming experience in many languages, so picking up a new one isn't that difficult.

The other thing I did whenever I ran into trouble was to join a scripting channel. The best one (most helpful) that I have used frequently is #Scripting on Dalnet. Many networks have scripting channels that you can check out. Be sure to have a specific question when you join them, as the people there won't write a script for you, usually. Also, be prepared to wait until someone is available to help you.
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

np :) glad i could help :)

I learned thru practice as well, I did like Riamus and just looked at scripts i had in invision and excursion and figured out how things worked from looking at them and seeing what stuff did in mIRC's help file.. That probly won't work well for everyone, but i learn best by example and trial and error..
I did also goto a pretty good site for scripting, http://dooyoo-uk.tripod.com/mirc/ but i get just as much from looking thru mIRC's help file, so that's what i do now..
I've had no previous programming experience, cept for html, but that's nothing like mIRC scripting, nothing at all hehe
From what i hear mIRC's scripting is more like C, C++ and the like, but i dunno cause i've never messed with that, though i'd like to learn, just need to push myself to actually do it hehe
