triggering a nick change

In one of the channels I'm involved in I use 2 nicks, depending on what time it is. I have designed 2 timers to automaticly handle it. I had an idea of how to fully automate the process, by having it initiate the oposing timer when it saw the text of a nick change

ex
when it sees the text "nick one (mask) now uses nick 2" it would automaticly initiate a timer to tell it when to switch from nick 2 to nick one.

Any ideas

why not just have it poll the time and if it is within range 1, use nick a, if it is in range 2, use nick b ?

much easier than starting/stopping timers based on text....
