and on the status screen there's this line
"SEVERE ERROR ON STARTUP. Invision may not function correctly. It is recommended that you find and fix the error, or reinstall Invision."
i was using it normally before on win7, i don't know what caused this error. well i guess it's something related to visual studio, but i never used that program, so i don't know. i tried to install invision several time, both old and new version but the error always pop up.

ps. sorry for my bad english

Do you use any other scripts or DLLs? Are you using the current version of mIRC and Invision?
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

Most crashes are the result of a DLL problem. Try without your DLL and see what happens. If it doesn't happen with the DLL removed, then you know what the cause is and you should contact the person who made the DLL to see about getting an updated version. If it still happens, start out with a completely clean copy of mIRC (no scripts or DLLs installed) and see if it crashes. If it does, then you're having a problem with mIRC itself and should ask on their forums. If it works on a clean install, then start out by installing just Invision (the current version) and see if it crashes. If it does, then let me know and we'll try and find out why. If it doesn't, then load your additional scripts and DLLs one at a time until you find the one with the problem. Then contact the person you made the script or DLL that is causing the problem.

I'm not sure what would cause it then. No one has ever mentioned a problem with that kind of error related to Invision. So it would have to be something either conflicting with Invision or with mIRC that you have and no one else does. That could be some kind of driver or other software installed on your computer or even some kind of hardware that is causing problems.

Try this:

1) Install mIRC 7.17 and Invision 3.2 to c:\mirc1\ (install mIRC first, then use the Invision Only option to install Invision to the same folder)
2) Install Invision 3.1.3 to c:\mirc2\ (the install includes mIRC 6.35)

Do not install anything else to those folders or load any other scripts or DLLs. Try running both and see if it either work.

Can you load mIRC by itself without Invision installed? And are you downloading mIRC from the official site (or through our installer)? It's possible a download from another site may not function correctly.

Beyond that, I am not really sure. The C++ files shouldn't be the problem. They are used by a lot of software and you would most likely have problems with other programs and not just mIRC.

No, the registry settings should have no effect. It's hard to say. Something isn't being accepted on your system that is being accepted on others. It would have to be tracked down manually on your system to find the cause. In would have to be something in the startup routines that is causing the problem. It would be virtualy impossible to walk someone through everything to test. You'd need to know what you were doing and how to troubleshoot it yourself because of the amount of troubleshooting involved and the time it would take.

Invision's been tested on a variety of systems and versions of Windows and works very well in Windows 7 (both 32bit and 64bit). It's been tested with a variety of hardware as well. There is the chance that you have a driver installed that is conflicting in some way. Drivers that are most likely to conflict would be video and audio drivers. If any drivers were updated around the time it started having problems, then that's likely the cause. Change the driver(s) you're using - even if that means going to older drivers - and maybe your problem will be solved. You could also try a system restore to and see if that helps. Restore back to just before it stopped working. If it works at that point, then keep a close eye on any updates you do (drivers, software, Windows, etc) so you know which one is the cause.

As mentioned, try different drivers for video/audio and see if that helps. If you both list your computer hardware, that may help to determine a similarity, which may help to determine the problem.

There is a thread on mIRC.com's forum regarding this kind of error and it was determined that Open Office updated the C++ files and that update is causing problems with mIRC. If you also use Open Office, that may be the cause of your problem. Note that other programs may also update the C++ files and that may produce the same kind of problem even if you don't use Open Office.
