HOW to connect to 2 channels at once? Keep losing conx

Postby kveldalfr » Wed Jan 07, 2004 12:33 am

I was in a channel, say #ABC123, and then (from an irc link) went to another channel #456XYZ.

Now, I was prompted regarding the server, and seleced "change server and join channel" for the new channel.

But, what happens everytime is i lose my connection to the first channel and when i go into it, it show me as the sole member there (as opposed to the 300 or so people who were there when i was connected).

How do you connect to 2 channels at once?

To complicate issues, 2x i've even got this odd message:

[10:00] *** ChanServ sets mode: +b *!~myemail@c-67-167-192-138.client.comcast.net
[10:00] *** You were kicked by ChanServ (Cause were nice to other networks and like to play with puppies)

I had done the proceedure just as above and selected new server as recommended.

please advise

:thanks for the reply:

maybe i'm just needing a bit more explanation; i'll try to quickly describe what i'm afraid of.

My Goal: I want to do all of these at the same time:
Be in one channel and queued for d/l of a pack and go to a completely different network and peruse its channels.

The problem is this: I'm on a network in one of their channels. Now, let's say i find a link from ircspy.com to a completely different Network (which is most likely the case when searching for packs). How do i connect to this different network without losing my connection to the channel im in?

Invariably EVERY time i try to go to a different channel I lose my connection to the channel wherein i had my queue(s). I hope i'm being clear. The ircmadeeasy site isn't quite addressing this.

Þanks

Well to connect to a diffrent net manualy and not by using the option above you would have to type

/server -m newservername

Then you have to type

/join channelname

The option mentioned above allows you to just click open new connection and it will connect you to that network and keep the current one open. Hop that helps for the info you seek.

thanks again...

I feel like a dork.

Tell me if this sounds like a normal fun irc experience:

1. I go to ircspy and find a pack that I'd like to examine, so i click on its shortcut. Connection is made automatically by mIRC/Invision and find myself in the desired channel. I find a pack and I'm in the queue to d/l.

2. While not wanting just to hang out in the above channel, i go to ircspy again and find another pack i'd like to review. So, I click on it's link.... AND

>> you're advice is to select the open a new connection<<
Other's have told me to change the servers. So which one will keep me from getting banned from chanserv for "visiting other networks?

[10:00] *** ChanServ sets mode: +b *!~myemail@c-67-167-192-138.client.comcast.net
[10:00] *** You were kicked by ChanServ (Cause were nice to other networks and like to play with puppies

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, i'm just trying to understand how things work. I want to keep in a queue in one network's channel, be downloading a file in an other network channel, and be perusing files in yet an other network's channel(s).

that has no affect on Invision them banning you is thier choice how they follow you around is kinda wierd and ban you from thier channel for going somewhere else. I would say dont visit thier channel or network if they ban for that. your Invision is working right but they are working wierd.
