file name length restrictions?

Postby anarkist » Thu Dec 18, 2003 10:57 am

Hi,
I'm new to INVISION and figured out a lot with this fantastic forum, but there are still some things I'm wondering about ;)

For now I have only 1 question (will be more for sure): Is there a file name length restriction?

Example, I have a folder in my share named:

soft pink truth, the - do you party [320 ank 2003]

If I try to access it, INVISION gives me back: Invalid folder

But if I rename the folder to: soft pink truth everything seems to be OK.

Anyone who can help me out?

thx

Brackets

It could simply be the brackets are causing a problem. I don't personally have any really long folder names, but I do have a file that has a name about 50-70 characters in length and Invision has no problems with it.

I also use Invision for about 2 months now, and it is excellent. I also noticed what i think is a file length prob. When i add a rs to immune scripts that is over 8 characters, it tildes ~1 the end, so it still doesnt catch the script on startup. Other than that, great work.

it's defenitly not caused by the brackets, I've got shorter filenames with those [] brackets and it's no problem. It must have something to do with the length of the filename. maybe someone knows something about it.

and there is something else I found. I've got a mac file called WipeOut 2097.toast.sit . This file could not be served as well, but I don't know why. Strange behaviour.

I knew the tilde was the 8character truncate for DOS. I didnt realize that invision, or i guess mirc ran in dos, or shell rather.
Thanks,
