Like L|B stated, you can ping out for a number of reasons .. sometimes its the server, sometimes it's you .. but you should reconnect automatically (perhaps with your 2nd choice of nick, if your first one is still ghosted when you reconnect)..

Any app you have running or have scheduled to run can hog your RAM &/or CPU long enuf to cause a hiccup in your connection to a server. .. eg: is your antivirus scanning all files on your puter while you're away? That used to cause my puter to lag enuf to cause a disconnection from the server (puter busy on my end)... tho leaving your puter to burn a disk etc can also lag your puter enuf to disconnect... if you are SURE it isnt your xp net settings :D
