A note on this topic..

I have a 15 mbit upload and DCC'd a file to a friend with 5 mbit download. No matter how we configured the packets, or whatever the file sizes were, the result was always the same: 220 kb/s (2 mbit roughly)

That seems like hard coded to me, anyone exceeded this limit? Cause my upload sure can handle more..

Strange that upload is higher than download. It is usually the opposite. In any case, it's not a "hard coded" limit, but DCC is far from a great transfer method. I have seen speeds higher from various XDCC servers, though, so it can be done. See what you send is on FTP so you know for sure that you can get better speeds. Just because your ISP says you can get that speed doesn't mean you really can. It depends a lot on the lines into your home.

It's not the line or my ISP. I wanted to start an XDCC just for fun really, we usually use FTP. My connection gives me an average of 22~23mbit download (of 25mbit) and an average of ~14mbit upload (of 15mbit). My line is 25/15 mbit...

Perhaps someone should consider finding an alternative to DCC for IRC ? Or change the protocol slightly, to improve performance on todays modern connections, remember that this goes way back to the dial-up modem days, DCC had plenty of room then...

Well, IRC was never really meant for file transfers in the first place. It works for it, but it's really meant for chatting. That doesn't mean DCC won't someday be improved... in fact, there has been work on a DCC2 protocol for a long time now. I have no idea how far along it is or if it will ever be incorporated into mIRC. It's not something I can do in any case. :)

You might want to find whomever is working on that (google should find it) and post your support of it. Up to you.
